Accrington football coach in nightclub brawl

AN amateur football coach used his head to resolve a late night dispute over a spilled drink.

Blackburn magistrates heard Steven Leslie Chadwick struck the other man on the nose with the back of his head because he thought he was going to be attacked.

But the court was told Chadwick himself ended up on the deck being kicked by two men.

Chadwick, 32, of Southwood Drive, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assaulting Jordan Schofield.

He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £125 compensation and £85 costs.

Dylan Bradshaw, defending, said his client was a hard working, family man who had run a football team for the past 10 years.

On the night of the incident he had gone for a drink in Clitheroe with members of the team who then persuaded him to go into Accrington.

“There was an incident at the bar in which he had a drink knocked out of his hand,” said Mr Bradshaw.

“There was some abuse and he saw the aggrieved coming up behind him.

He struck out backwards with his head but he was the one who ended up on the floor being punched and kicked.”
