Investigation launched after malicious call to Darwen firefighters

AN investigation is now underway after a false alarm brought Darwen firefighters to a town landmark in the early hours of Saturday.

Firefighters received a report that the old Liberal Club in Hollins Grove, Falcon Avenue, was ablaze, just before 1am.

But crew manager Pete Derbyshire said that when firefighters arrived at the scene there was no sign of any incident.

The telephone number of the original caller has been retained and has now been passed to Darwen police for investigation.

Idiots , what if there was a real fire elsewhere and innocent people were hurt? Catch these idiots and give them a hefty fine / punishment and that should put other people off attempting these mindless acts.

As someone who used to take the initial 999 and then filter the call to the relevant emergency service I know that all calls are recorded. Would it not be possible to allow access, via an audio file, so that we could listen to these calls. I am sure that if this could be done the perpetrators would soon be caught.
