Star striker Charlie Austin shares goal to be ‘green’

STAR striker Charlie Austin swapped claret and blue for an altogether greener outlook at an environm-ent event in Burnley town centre.
He joined pupils from Well-field and St Leonard’s Prim-ary Schools at a unique Harv- est Festival, at the bandstand in Charter Walk.
It was organised by Busin-ess in the Community to prom- ote healthy eating, and sust-ainable living.
Austin, currently the top scorer in the Football League with 12 goals for Burnley so far this season – offered his own recycling and energy-saving tips to the enthusias-tic youngsters.
Horticultural experts from Pop-Up Farms and Pennine Lancashire Community Farm were also on hand to demonstrate how to grow your own food, and get inv-olved with community growing projects.
Gudrun Cartwright, Business in the Community’s head of regional envir-onmental impact, said: “Many of us want to make changes to our lifestyles, but don’t know where to start.
“Fortunately, there are plenty of simple and fun steps we can take to improve our wellbeing and make our communities more sustainable.
“We hope this Harvest Festival will help to demonstrate that being green is not only easy, it can also make you healthier, and wealthier, too.”
Austin, 23, fielded questions from the youngsters on topics such as health and fitness, before they engaged in a street survey to discover how sust-ainable local lifestyles are. Other volun-teers included members of Groundwork Pennine Lancashire, who discussed the health benefits of walking, and how to make the most of nature, and green spaces.
