A TEEN ex-soldier who was more than twice the drink-drive limit has paid the price with his job, as well as his driving licence.
Burnley magistrates heard how James Conrad Pickles, 19, rang police himself when he smashed into fencing, and a wall, and turned his car over, just before 3am, on October 2.
He later gave a test which revealed 86 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Pickles, who served in the Royal Signals for two years, was banned for 20 months, fined £110, and must pay a £15 victim surcharge.
Pickles, of Rendel Street, Burnley, admitted driving with excess alcohol, in Accrington Road, Hapton. Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, said when officers arrived, paramedics were at the scene. Pickles, who was not injured, gave a positive roadside breath test.
Pickles had been to an 18th birthday, had then gone home, had an argument and foolishly, while in drink, took the decision to leave. He sneezed, clipped the kerb, and hit the wall.
