Accrington soldier attacked former wife's new partner

AN ‘ex-soldier and bouncer’ attacked his former wife’s new love because he wrongly believed he had beaten her up, a court was told.

Martyn Hesketh, 47, left victim David Reynolds with bruising, cuts, and swelling, as well as other injuries, when he turned up at her home and set about him, after flying into the room and knocking an internal door off its hinges. He had believed the victim had hit Mrs Hesketh, Burnley Crown Court heard.

Hesketh was later arrested and claimed he thought Mr Reynolds had assaulted his ex-wife.

He said he had gone round, and alleged the victim had gone to hit him, and they ended up in a fight. He told police he had been in the army for eight years, and had worked on the doors for 12 years, and the victim was no match for him.

The defendant admitted assault, causing actual bodily harm.

Hesketh, of Clifton Street, Accrington, was given a 12- month community order, with supervision, and 120 hours unpaid work.
