New consultation over East Lancashire windfarm scheme

A CONTROVERSIAL windfarm planned for East Lancashire’s moors has been scaled down.

Kelda Water Services will submit a new planning application to install five 125m turbines instead of seven above Todmorden and Bacup following public consultations.

Another public consultation will be held today from 4.30-7pm, at Bacup Hub in Burnley Road.

The company has contacted residents near to the development to tell them about the changes to the proposed wind farm on land owned by sister company Yorkshire Water near Gorpley Reservoir.

Kelda says the site will have a total output equivalent to the average annual demand of up to 8,132 homes.

These will be just like all the other rubbish they came out with in years gone by where the tax payer has to pay to have them built. Then they get passed into the private sector and rip our arms and legs off with charges and subsidies for what we've already paid for.

No, that's not true is it Kelda. The windmills will only produce that amount of electricity if the wind is blowing constantly at the optimum speed. Which, of course, it doesn't. Average production is somewhere around 25% of maximum. So this project will supply only 2033 houses, not 8132. What is more, everyone who is struggling to pay the bills at present will have to pay more 'cos of the extra tax on 'green power'.
The only reason moorland is being industrialised is because of the guarenteed extra money 'green power' is allowed to charge.
Saving the planet? No, lining pockets of those who are already wealthy, and to hell with the plebs.

People of Bacup: do you expect Oswaldtwistle residents to attend your protest meetings about these monstrosities and if so, can we expect you to attend ours? As a fellow constituent I share your concern but feel helpless to be of any assistance especially if you hold meetings in an evening. The last bus leaves before 9pm. Even if I could encourage people to come in their cars, I fear the raising of the carbon footprint may not justify doing so. Please advise.
