Fence accident driver fined

THE driver of a car which knocked down a pedestrian on a ‘flyover’ has been fined £210 and given six penalty points.

Nathan Banister, 18, of Wheatley Lane Road, Fence, was behind the wheel of the Vauxhall Corsa on April 3.

Burnley magistrates heard that as he travelled down Centenary Way, at about 8.30pm, he had seen a pedestrian in the road and had braked hard, losing control and colliding with the pedestrian.

Banister’s car then crashed into the railing on the central reservation and rebounded across the road into the opposite carriageway.

The pedestrian, 37, suffered a fractured skull, fractured leg and fractured arm.

Accident investigators said they estimated the speed of the Vauxhall Corsa to be about 62mph, on a 30mph stretch of road. Banister pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.
