Diane Riley surveys the damage at the Bleakholt shop
A VANDAL has caused thousands of pounds in damage to shops and homes during a wrecking spree in Ramsbottom.
Around 12 shops and houses had their windows damaged in the incident, which happened in Bridge Street and Bolton Street, in the early hours today.
Some properties had windows that had been completely smashed, although the majority had just been shattered.
Among those hit was the Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary charity shop in Bridge Street, which had one large pane of glass shattered.
Manager Diane Riley said: “We came in this morning to see the damage, we couldn’t believe it. “The police forensics team have been here this morning and taken samples.
“It is incredibly disappointing as we are a charity, and we run this on a voluntary basis and all the money goes towards the sanctuary, it basically means that everything we did in the shop for a couple of days last week was all pointless as the money will now go on this.”
Among the other shops damaged were Hushmoon, Isherwoods, the Room 54 Cafe and W&D Scholes, which had three large window panes shattered. A man has been arrested by police in connection with the damage.
