AN investigation has been launched after a haul of stolen motors and parts were recovered from a caravan site during a drugs raid in Bacup.

An operation was mounted by neighbourhood police after a tip-off that cannabis was being grown in a caravan at the Rochdale Road encampment.

And when police, led by community beat manager Pc Pete law, moved in, they found five plants being grown in a tent, under a lamp, in one of the bedrooms.

But the officers also discovered a number of vehicles and individual car parts, scattered around the caravan site, which will form the basis of a separate inquiry.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said that a VW Crafter van, thought to have been stolen in the Leeds area late last month.

The shell of a Mercedes Sprinter van was also uncovered at the same premises, though it is not yet known if this vehicle had been stolen.

Five doors from Ford Transit vans, along with the fuel tanks for various vehicles, were also seized by investigating officers.

Police have confirmed that a 55-year-old Bacup man has been arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis and possession of the drug. The plants will now be sent away for anaylsis and the man has been released on bail until January 5.

Further inquiries will also be conducted regarding the stolen Crafter van and the other car parts to see if more charges will follow.
