Rise in school challenges

THE number of parents challenging school’s decisions not to give them their school of choice has risen for the fifth consecutive year.

Appeals against state primary school admissions rose by about 11 per cent to just under 47,000 for 2010-11 - up from just over 42,000 the previous year.

Appeals against secondary admissions - excluding those to academies - fell.
