East Lancashire RSPCA fundraisers cancel annual ball
10:56am Tuesday 9th October 2012 in News
RSPCA fundrasers in East Lancashire have had to cancel their annual ball due to a lack of ticket sales.
Donations were expected to help the charity at the event on Friday October 20.
And people who paid £35 for tickets for the ball at The Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Clayton-le-Moors, have now been refunded.
Ken Harrison, branch manager at RSPCA, off Enfield Road, said that over the past six months bosses at the Altham branch have seen a fall in donations.
He said: “We found that the majority of people can’t afford to pay for the taxis and drinks that go with a night out anymore so we had to cancel. Hopefully we can raise more money another way. It usually works when people use the safe haven scheme and donate a certain amount each month.”
Despite the decrease in donations, Ken said that they do rise at Christmas time.
He added: “In the run-up to December it’s always quiet, but we have a lot of donations around Christmas time. If it isn’t money we still receive lots of food donations.”

Other charities, who concentrate their activities on the care of animals, are seen as a far more attractive home for their donations.
