A PLAY based on a Bacup murder could tour the rest of the UK after winning rave reviews for its Manchester run.

Black Roses: The Killing of Sophie Lancaster was staged at Manchester’s Royal Exchange from September 19 to 29.

Audiences donated more than £1,200 to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation charity after watching the play, starring East Lancashire actress Julie Hesmondhalgh.

In a post on the charity’s website, a spokesperson said: “It was a very emotional 10 days for everyone. The profound impact the play had was clear to see on those who were leaving the theatre.

“We have had a great number of inquiries about if the play will tour or show elsewhere. The answer is that Sylvia is working out what will be the most appropriate for the Foundation.”

It would be great to see it go on tour - maybe it could start in Rossendale? The more people are aware of how much discrimination there is against anyone who looks or is 'different', the better. Good to see Sophie's supporters in the Preston Guild Torchlight Procession last month.
