MOTORISTS suffered major delays this morning after a lorry overturned at one of East Lancashire's busiest junctions.
The accident happened at 5.22am at the Winfield roundabout at Rising Bridge.
The A56 Accrington bypass was closed northbound and delays were experienced on the A56 between Haslingden and Rising Bridge.
There were also delays through Rising bridge back towards Baxenden.
No other vehicle was involved, and the driver of the lorry managed to get himself out uninjured before calling for emergency help.
Lee Cook, crew manager at Hyndburn fire station spent an hour at the scene.
He said: “When we got there, there wasn’t anybody trapped, but the lorry was leaking diesel into the drains.
“We carried out an assessment and decided to block off the drains while the vehicle was recovered.”
Police have temporarily closed part of Blackburn Road and the A56 Haslingden Bypass while the HGV is recovered.
