A PENSIONER suffered serious head injuries after falling at a Blackburn bus stop.
The woman, believed to be in her mid-70s, was stood by bus stand G in Railway Road, Blackburn, when the accident happened.
She had just asked the driver of the Lancashire United Bolton service for information but as the bus pulled out she fell.
Initially it was was investigated whether the bus had struck her, but police believe she fell of her own accord.
The fall, on Tuesday, knocked the Blackburn woman unconscious and she sustained a serious head injury.
John Threlfall, business director at Lancashire United, said the driver had been giving the woman directions, adding: “The driver stopped immediately and called 999. It looks like she cut her head on the edge of the curb.
“I believe the lady is still in hospital with a nasty bump.”
An internal investigation is being carried out, and the one-month-old bus was checked out at the depot for faults but given all clear.
Police said the woman was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital and kept in. The North West Ambulance Service said she had been regained consciousness before paramedics arrived.
