East Lancashire children celebrate European languages

PUPILS from across Lancashire joined together at the University of Central Lancashire to mark the European Day of Languages and celebrate cultures from around the world.

Year 10 and 11 schoolchildren and sixth form college students tried new foreign languages and sampled dishes cooked by international students from China, Germany, Greece, Japan, Poland and Spain.

UCLan students who have chosen to study abroad as part of their degree courses also shared their international experiences with the pupils. Senior lecturer Silke Engelbart, organised the celebration.

Love All Languages of Spain says...

I think this is a brilliant idea!

I grew up in Spain where I was exposed to a very diverse expat community of 10+ nationalities as well as the local culture and languages. I don't doubt that it made me more open-minded and curious of different traditions, foods and languages. I believe it makes the world a better place!

Spain alone has 5 official languages and many more official dialects: http://www.succeed-a
