East Lancs Euro MP calls for end to two-base parliament

EAST LANCASHIRE Euro-MP Chris Davies has attacked the refusal to end the expensive ‘nonsense’ where the European Parliament shuttles between two bases in Brussels and Strasbourg.

He and his elected colleagues have voted to end the two site arrangement which will cost taxpayers more than £1 billion between 2014 and 2020.

But the French have vetoed the plan to drop Strasbourg which is in their country. Liberal Democrat Mr Davies said: “It’s a nonsense. The European Parliament has repeatedly voted to end it and concentrate the parliament in Brussels but the French veto it.

“It is very expensive and damaging to the environment. Our Prime Minister and other European leaders need to take the French on about this at the next European Treaty negotiations. It’s time to end it.”

They need to give people in this country a free vote on our continued membership of this club. They already know the answer and are avoiding derailing the gravy train.

They wont change a system that costs money as taxpayers pay. Listen to all political parties, none of them have come out and said we can have a vote to get us out.

It makes absolutely no sense having two parliaments; apart from placating the French. Any French veto needs to be met with a strong voice from the other 26 member states. It's a complete waste of money.
