Blackburn man injured in street stab attack

A MAN sustained a deep slash to his arm after a suspected knife attack near a Blackburn takeaway.

The 31-year-old victim was attacked in an alleyway in Audley Range on Friday night after going to the aid of a female he was with.

Police and crime scene investigators closed the street for more than two hours to carry out an investigation.

Police said it wasn't a random attack. Ambulance and police arrived on scene at around 8.20pm and closed the road to carry out forensic tests. It reopened at around 10.30pm.

DI Mark Winstanley, from Blackburn CID, said: “It is a very unusual incident. “The victim is a 31-year-old Asian male who lives in the Blackburn area.

“He walked into a takeaway with a female reporting that he has been assaulted in an alleyway nearby on Audley Range.

“We are trying to piece together the circumstances.

“The victim tells us he became aware of an incident involving an unknown male and a female in an alleyway. He intervened and a fight has ensued with a male, during which the victim has suffered some what appear to be stab wounds to his stomach and arm. The offender ran off.

“He was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where he is still in hospital, receiving treatment for his injuries. They are serious but not life threatening.

“The offender is believed to be a medium build male wearing dark clothes and a dark hooded top.”
