10:22am Friday 28th September 2012 in News
Crime has fallen in the county over the past six months, figures show.
It was down by 3.7 per cent between April and August despite officers having to cope with several large events including the Preston Guild and the Open Golf in Lytham. Figures also show that almost every category of crime saw reductions in the number of offences being committed.
Robbery fell by 19.2 per cent, Serious Acquisitive Crime, the term used to group incidents of burglary, theft and robbery, was down by 1.2 per cent, burglary on its own fell by three per cent and criminal damage by 11.5 per cent.
Bruce Jassi, the chairman of the Lancashire Police Authority, said: “The programme of public events this summer have placed unprecedented demand on the force’s resources at a time when we are trying to identify savings.
“To achieve such positive results is nothing short of remarkable.”
