Barrowford drink-driver had lost job

A driver who was twice the drink limit had lost his job a few days before, magistrates heard.

Richard Heys, 44, of Dixon Street, Barrowford, was stopped in Nelson at 3am. A sample showed 70 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35.

Heys admitted drink-driving and was fined £200, with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. He was banned for 18 months.

Graeme Tindall, defending, said it was his ‘second bit of bad luck’ in the space of a few days after he had been laid off from his job as an engineer.
