Faults found in spot-checks on Colne taxis

FIVE taxis were taken off the road in Colne after safety checks on vehicles.

Pendle Council worked with police and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency to ensure that people who use taxis are travelling in safety.

Spot checks were carried out on taxis on the evening of September 14. Officers checked 21 vehicles, out of which five had to be taken off the road due to faults.

Two had the faults fixed the same night. The remaining three had the faults fixed and were back on the road the next day.

Coun Pauline McCormick, who chairs the taxi licensing committee, said: “The number of taxis failing the test was a vast improvement compared to previous spot checks.

“The faults found on three of the vehicles were lighting and seat belt defects, while the other two had steering and suspension faults.”

Very pleased that the police and VOSA decided to execute safety spot checks and restricted faulty taxis from being operated, and diagnosed faults and repair orders enforced. Safety of passengers is a top priority and must at all times be enforced by the relevant authorities.
These safety checks should now be extended to all vehicles, regardless of their purpose on public highway. Any vehicle above 8 years of age should be subjected to vigorous spot checks and the same restrictions imposed if failing any saftey issues. Safety of other road users and pedestrians is a highest level of importance, and regular checks carried out on a regular basis to ensure tip top vehicles on our roads.

Tell me the old old story. Every time there is a check taxis are found to be unroadworthy. It is no use Cllr McCormick saying the number is falling, in truth there should not be any. The problem is that the drivers and owners just do not give a tnkers cuss. The only way the taxi owners will learn to keep the vehicles in good condition is for them to lose their licence.

It's all very well ensuring the vehicles are safe but when your driver has convictions for assault etc then it kind of negates the vehicle being safe doesn't it ? By the way, there are checks on vehicles, they're called M.O.Ts and the police can and do perform spot checks on vehicles whenever they see fit. You shouldnt say that about nonce n ible
He said was killing japs for us in the 1960s, so he cant be all bad.
Why he was killing them in the 1960s though I dont know as I thought WW2 ended in 1945.

@ iasiah fartwell,

You cant arrest, fine or punish taxi drivers for doing somthing wrong as that would be racist.
Next thing you will be wanting them to be here legally, have passed a driving test by themselves, instead of having a mate who can speak english do it for them and have proper insurance.

time for commom sense, your obviously time for common sense has yet not arrived. MOT's relates to the vehicle's components when examined at the time of MOT, and does not neccessarily mean it will remain roadworthy till the validity of the period mentioned, meaning garages may provide the certificate if they felt the vehicle components would maintain it's present condition, and also 5h1theads like you who constantly appear on this page who know 4kole, but simply to prove to the world what lowlifers they really are, and would love to smash your 4kin face in with my bare fists.

Bengi's mum, I regard your comments as an insult and to all who contributed with their life's and sacrifices in the name of peace. Not
alot of people would appreciate the pain felt for the soldiers who left their loved one's and never returned. I may be of Indian origin, but do not at all consider that just because we were members of the British Empire, all was cushy cushy. It was my duty to serve as a soldier in the Bahadur's Regiment and for Great Britain.
maybe you should learn to read correctly before commenting a post.

You really must learn to control your anger, it wont be doing your blood pressure any good. You are now, unfortunately for us, living in England and we dont go around shooting people or smashing their faces in just because we have a difference of opinion.

I have great respect for anyone who fought for Great Britain in any of our wars, even you if you really did fight on our side in WW1, WW2, Burma or Korea.
I am just confused by one of your earlier rants at me about you enjoying killing Japs on our behalf in the 1960s.
Unless I am mistaken, we were no longer at war with Japan after they surrendered on the 15th August 1945.

Maybe you didnt really serve in the British army and were just a physcopath who, after murdering a lot of japanese, claimed asylum here like so many people from your sub continent seem to like to do.
OK some of them get locked up in Guantanemo Bay first but then they get huge payouts and flown back here on private planes for a life of luxury, never needing to work again, while they continue to plot how to kill more of us.

In my earlier post to you, it was in 1951 when I first resided at Skiddaw St, Copy Nook, and then moved to Todmorden with my parents who then lived and passed away. Their graves are in Rochdale cemetery. I then returned back to Blackburn and lived in the Audley area in 1961.
I served in the Bahadur's Dogra Regiment in 1943, when I was only 17 years of age. It was not a choice I had as our country's freedom and the Sovereignty and Empire was under threat. this was in WW2 and not, WW1 as incorrectly stated.
Therefore it is my right to live in this country and I did not arrive here as an asylum, but was welcomed in open arms. I am a British of asian apperance and my duty is to this country even though I was born in India.
Since then I, nor my family have claimed benefits, or pension, but have worked to earn.
These are our principles.

Now be the judge and jury. My post on this page, re, condition of vehicles is a legitimate comment and I receive a reply where I am verbally abused, by that cretin tfcommon sense. That is not a difference in opinion, it is an insult, and yes, I will comment accordingly. jack daniels and myself are alway's engaged in arguments and regard it as normal.
So be the judge!

I do apologise to you for the comment which I made to you several months ago and except it was well out of order.

Fair enough, apology accepted and I too apologise for some of the stuff I have said about you.

You are of a generation that came here to help the UK recover and rebuild after the war, as we had lost so many people in the war.

Having said that you must admit that the changes that immigration since the later 1960s has had a detrimental effect on the UK.
Those later immigrants, especially the ones that arrived in the 1990s and their offspring havent come here to benefit the UK, as your generation did, but to take advantage of our benefits system, as the work had dried up by then.

They are the ones that have caused resentment of all immigrants, including your generation by we, the indigenous people.
You and your generation should be as against the continuing mass immigration as we are as its changing the Britain that you came to because you liked our way of life, into a country that is now becoming as alien to you as it is to us.

I hope that we can agree on that.

Please do not for a slight second assume the asian community are closed knit as one would believe them to be. Beside our friends and family members, I would have difficulty in recognising any asian walking the street to their background and which category I would position them relating to their earnings. I suppose that would equally be very similar regardless to which community we refer to. I accept in my opinion it is not the 1960's immigrants that has had the negative effect on the UK, but the influx dating after the 1990's that has had the detrimental effects. Maybe the reluctance by those who had settled earlier to work, a little minority, and to abuse the benefit system for easy money, MAY, have encouraged a further percentage to settle and reside in the UK and for the elected British government in their failure to detect such as those scroungers triggered many more to apply for the sole reason to continue abusing the UK, which we see around us today. However I am aware that the very first immigrants who settled prior to the 1960's, halted the influx as far as their family and friends are concerned, and that includes ME, and is the reason why I just cannot tollerate being compared to the rest, because of my appearance and my appearance that would resemble their's, is the colour of my family hair! Above all that the level of crime related incidents and other such severe incidents, has also had a negative image portrayed upon the asian community as a whole. I can honestly say that most would be hard working and law abiding citizens, and as always there is a good and bad in everything.
