Blackburn man failed to halt benefits

A 41-YEAR-OLD man continued to claim benefits, including incapacity, despite getting a job as a dray man.

Blackburn magistrates heard Wayne Cox had been on the sick for nine years before getting the job through an agency but had not known how long it was going to last.

Cox, of Birch Hall Avenue, Darwen, pleaded guilty to three charges of failing to notify a change of circumstances which affected his entitlement to incapacity, housing and council tax benefit.

He was fined £150 with £100 costs.

Liz Parker, defending, said Cox had been unsure whether the job would last a week or a month. He started claiming benefits while out of work with depression after his brother’s suicide.
