Excitement at Burnley’s Manchester Road railway station plans
11:00pm Tuesday 25th September 2012 in News
BURNLEY Council leader Julie Cooper has welcomed the decision to give the green light to plans to regenerate Manchester Road railway station as ‘vitally important for Burnley’.
The council’s development control committee granted planning approval to demolish the vacant building and build a modern station building with a larger car park.
Coun Cooper said: “This is a vitally important step for Burnley’s future regeneration.
Manchester Road railway station is at the centre of the improved links being forged between Burnley and Manchester.”
Council chief executive Steve Rumbelow said: “This modern, exciting railway station will be the first impression visitors get of the town, and with the transformations under way it is important that visitors arriving, or passing through see the new, modern, changing Burnley.”

Still the big thing sticking up will give the local graffiti artists something to decorate.

Two boarded up pubs, a decrepit corner at the Mitre it gives a great image coming off the motorway at Gannow Top.
Then dropping down you look across the town and what a mess it looks. A great mish mash of ugly buildings such as the old Gus, Social Services building, not to mention the Telephone Exchange followed by an in town scrapyard. All these combined don't inspire awe and wonder.
Then you go along Trafalgar the hotbed of Fast Food, all say "Welcome to Burnley"
I don't even want to mention the awful sight between Queensgate travelling towards the town right through Colne Road past Duke Bar, it makes you wonder what country we are in. Is there any truth that this stretch is a money launderers paradise?
It is time that all the main entrannce roads into Burnley were addressed instead of kowtowing to Supermarkets the entrances to which cause complete utter traffic chaos.
Add to this the fact that even a single person crossing the road at the College (never mind the constant crossings of students) can bring the whole town to a gridlock right up Westgate to the Motorway and all the way up Colne Road. Then the Council wonder why the shops are a mess and empty.
CONGRATULATIONS Burnley Town Planners!! You still keep showing the same ineptitude you have done for decades, be proud of yourselves for ruining what was a superb St. James's Street shopping experience many years ago
