East Lancashire teenage burglar is locked up

A TEENAGE crook who went on a month-long burgling spree mostly in the Rossendale and Burnley areas, has been locked up for 34 months.
Burnley Crown Court heard how Jordan Haworth, 19, broke into homes and other premises, striking while on bail and after appearing in court.
Haworth, who needed cash after starting to take drugs and getting in with the wrong crowd, left a trail of victims from whom he stole goods to the tune of thousands of pounds, as well as damage.
The defendant, of Padiham Road, Burnley, had admitted four burglaries, one attempted burglary and handling stolen goods, between June and July.
He asked for one offence, a burglary at a jeweller’s shop, to be considered. He had been committed for sentence by Pennine magistrates.
Jane Dagnall, prosecuting, said that among his offences Haworth had raided Rossendale Youth Zone on June 30, when he forced a window.
He stole property to the tune of more than £1,000, including a television, cash, a laptop and a Playstation Three. Some of the haul was found dumped in a river.
Jeremy Lasker, defending, said: “This is going to be his first custodial sentence. He's only 19. He does express a degree of remorse.”

Yet the article says:
"Burnley Crown Court heard how Jordan Haworth, 19, broke into homes and other premises, striking while on bail and after appearing in court."
How many more times had he been arrested and told that he was a naughty boy, given a slap on the wrist, a caution or a bit of community service before this last court date ?
Maybe if he'd been locked up for a bit after being arrested and convicted of the earlier offences, he may have learned his lesson by now.
