Blackburn link road consent renewed

PLANNING permission for one of the last sections of the Blackburn orbital route has been renewed by the borough.

Planning and highways councillors extended for another five years the authorisation for the Furthergate link road development between Burnley Close and the Red Lion roundabout on Burnley Road.

A second planning permission for associated bus and cycle lanes was also renewed. The plan is an improvement and simplification of an existing section of the town’s orbital route.

The last planning permission for the interlinked schemes, proposed for more than 20 years, was granted in 2009.

Blackburn with Darwen Council already owns all the land needed for the link road, bus and cycle lanes and the committee promised that any effect on local residents and businesses would be minimised when it approved the extension of planning permission.
