TWO people were taken to hospital with broken legs after a motorcycle crash in Pendle.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the collision in Colne Road between Brierfield and Nelson.

A 62-year-old man who was riding the motorcycle and his 51-year-old woman passenger, both from Burnley, were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment.

The bike collided with a silver Vauxhall Astra travelling in the same direction towards Nelson.

The man was trapped under the car for some time and although his injuries were serious, he was fully conscious when paramedics arrived.

The incident happened at the junction with Chapel Street and John Street at around 11.30am on Saturday.

The road remained closed for more than three hours while the emergency services attended the scene. A police spokesperson said the driver of the car escaped unharmed.

The North West Ambulance service confirmed that a 62-year-old man had been treated for a broken leg and foot. Anyone who may have seen the collision should contact Lancashire police on 101.
