BAE Systems and EADS merger must be in 'national interest'

MP Lindsay Hoyle has stressed that any merger between BAE Systems and the European defence company EADS must only take place if it is in the national interest.
BAE Systems confirmed last week that the two companies were in discussions regarding a possible combination of their businesses.
Chorley MP Mr Hoyle said: “BAE Systems is one of Britain’s most important blue chip companies, and it is the backbone of manufacturing in Lancashire.
“Thousands of people are directly employed by the company, and there are three times as many jobs in the supply chain.
“BAE Systems’ biggest client has always been the British government. The company would not be where it is today, or as profitable as it is, without the major military contracts it has received from the Ministry of Defence.
I think the company, and indeed the government, should bear this in mind when it comes to any potential merger that might reduce the company’s footprint in Lancashire and the United Kingdom.”

Sadly I fear that will happen if this merger goes ahead. The M.O.D is shrinking and their needs could easily be met from Europe. I think this will speed up the process of having a European army. They will take the brains of BAE and sack the rest.
