Road ‘has no purpose now’

A DARWEN ‘road to nowhere’ is set to be closed to public traffic.

Perspex manufacturer Lucite International has asked the borough to ‘stop up’ River Street across its land.

The firm believes the road no longer serves any purpose as a public highway and officials have indicated their provisional agreement.

Blackburn with Darwen planning and highways committee will consider Lucite’s request.

The firm, has proved to borough lawyers that it owns the land on either side of the road.

Officials urge the councillors to approve the application to local magistrates for the order which would relieve the borough of the cost of maintaining River Street as a public highway.
