Former Whitworth mayor is honoured

WHITWORTH Town Council has bestowed the title of Honorary Townsman on one of its longest-serving members.

Coun Thomas Aldred was recognised for his ‘unwavering’ committment’ to life in the town, in front of an audience of 100 people at The Riverside, on Saturday.

Coun Aldred has been involved with the council since 1974, first as clerk, and then financial officer, before becoming a town councillor in 1991.

He has been the Mayor of Whitworth on two occasions, in 1994/95, and in 2006/07.
