East Lancashire people are urged to get flu jabs

LANCASHIRE’S health and wellbeing trust is encouraging people to get their flu jabs to prevent the virus being spread.

Research shows the flu virus can be passed on before symptoms begin, making it more important for people to get vaccinated.

Symptoms can vary, but ones to look out for include a sudden fever, limb or joint pain, aching muscles and a dry or chesty cough.

The best remedy is to rest at home, keep warm and drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, but people are advised to visit their GP if they have flu-like symptoms and are aged over 65, are pregnant, have a long-term medical condition or a weakened immune system.

Joanne Marshall, Lancashire Care workforce and organisational development director, said: “We are encouraging the staff at Lancashire Care to help fight the flu virus by having their flu jab and spreading the word about its benefits.

“The fact our staff come into contact with children and vulnerable people makes it really important that they get immunised which is why we’re in the process of arranging a series of flu clinics at convenient locations throughout the county.”
