MISSED Dr Malik
THE FUNERAL of Pendle doctor Ikram Malik MBE will be held today.
Dr Malik died on Wednesday after being hit by a car in Pendle Street, Nelson, last Friday.
The 75-year-old, who was awarded the MBE in 1999 for his community work, was still a GP at Yarnspinners medical practice in Carr Road, Nelson.
He moved to Pendle in the 1960s and became well-known through his campaigning work. He helped establish cohesion group Building Bridges Pendle 12 years ago.
Council chiefs today added to the tributes to Dr Malik.
Philip Mousdale, Pendle Council’s deputy chief executive, said: “He was a good friend who worked tirelessly with us in bringing communities together. He was a respected member of Pendle Partnership and influenced the direction of its work in promoting regeneration and tackling deprivation.”
The funeral will be held at the Ghausia Mosque, Nelson, at 2pm.
