Rossendale shelter campaign success

A CAMPAIGN to install a new bus shelter to assist older passengers along a well-used route in Rossendale has ended in success.

Town councillors in Whitworth and County Coun Peter Steen lobbied Lancashire’s highway department over improvements to a stop in Market Street, Facit, near Station Road.

And plans have now been approved by County Coun Tim Ashton, public transport cabinet member, which will see £6,300 spent on proposals which will see the stop moved 70 metres down the road.

There is only a pole at the current location and highways officials had decided there was not enough room for an upgrade.

But a full shelter, clearway markings and raised kerbs can be installed at the new location, which is in front of the former Facit Mill.
