Oakhill college cyclists complete coast to coast challenge

INTREPID cyclists from Whalley-based Oakhill College have taken on the challenge of dipping their wheels in both the Irish and North seas after following the historic course of Hadrian’s Wall.

The Irish sea wheel-dipping took place at Ravenglass, before the 15 strong group under the guidance of teacher Charles Jepson, took on the challenge of five full days of cycling over 174 miles towards the North Sea wheel-dip at South Shields beach.

The route took them North along the Cumbrian coast, where they camped at Allonby and Port Carlisle during the first two days, before heading inland following the course of Hadrian’s Wall with overnight camping stops at Haltwhistle and Prudhoe.

Their challenge during the summer holidays was dedicated to the work of The Christie Hospital in Manchester, and to date over £1,500 has been raised through sponsorship.
