Two women seriously injured in Blackburn as car mounts pavement

TWO women are being treated in hospital for severe injuries after being hit by a car.
The women were walking in East Park Road, Blackburn, next to Corporation Park, when the Vauxhall Astra mounted the kerb and struck them.
They were taken to hospital by ambulance with injuries thought to be severe but not life-threatening.
The accident happened just before 5pm.
Police said there were two men in the car. One, thought to be the driver, complained of pains in his leg and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The road was closed for two hours by the junction with Preston New Road, with traffic diverted down Lilford Street.
Officers were called to direct traffic.
An investigation has been launched but the incident is currently being treated as an accident by police.
