Burnley drunken man launched vicious attack on mother of his child

A YOUNG mother returned from a day trip with her child to find the youngster’s father very drunk and in her bed, a court was told.

Night shift worker, Leonard Rhys Thomas, 23, became aggressive when asked to leave, pushed Rebecca Nolan to the floor, straddled her, grabbed her around the throat and started to headbutt and punch her.

He then began to apply pressure to the victim’s throat, hurting her, but stopped when he noticed their child was watching what was going on, Burnley magistrates heard.

The hearing was told how the defendant then apologised, but when Ms Nolan went to use the phone to call her mother, she could hear smashing upstairs. Thomas returned two hours later and kicked the front door.

The defendant, of Kingsley Street, Nelson, admitted damaging two vases and a window, assault by beating and damaging a front door, all on August 27, at Nelson.

He was given a 12-month community order, with 80 hours unpaid work and must pay £300 compensation.

Charlotte Crane, prosecuting, said the victim, who had had a five-year relationship with Thomas, had not realised he had a spare key.

Rebecca Stanton, for Thomas, said but for the consumption of alcohol, he would not be before the court at all.

Alcohol doen't make you violent - being a violent person makes you violent.

Exactly the same way islam doesn't make you a terrorist...

or an homophobe

or a oppressor of women

or a groomer....

Alcohol stops you thinking straight thats enough of a reason to ban it - just like islam then?

Instead of jumping on your little soap box, why don't you try to respect other people's culture; especially the culture of the place where you live?

Jack Daniels, Islam doesn't stop you thinking straight, its the influence of extremist imams who do that, and they should be jailed or sent back to where ever they come from. The same with alcohol, its not the individual who commits the crime, but rather the influence of another factor, which is alcohol !

No. The man who spat was scum. Alcohol is just his excuse. People around the world are drinking alcohol but only a tiny minority are causing violence - the rest of the world is having a good time; unwinding and socialising.

Can you explain why Asian gangs fight when they haven't been drinking?

The real issue is that you think you are better than the people you share this town with and you clearly have no respect for our culture or western way of life.

Islam does stop you thinking straight. As you Muslims attend medressa from an early age, without a choice I might add, all you know or understand of the world is your 16th century beliefs and your cultural references from you family history. It restricts your open mindedness and your tolerance to other cultures. You even have special words for us - infidel and gorah.

Wow you've shown your true colors, people around the world do indeed drink alcohol and I agree manority cause the violence, what about the Muslims around the world who are peaceful and fit in local communitires, and the minority of Muslims who cause all the problems?? But yet you hate Muslims but not Alcohol?? How am I better then the people that live around me? How did you work that out? How do I have no respect for you cultures? I did not attend a madrassa, i attended Edge End High School, i've worked since 16 and put money into this country, I am against extremists (whether you beleive it or not) and gorah is a word which refers to a white man, if you offended by that, then that says it all. Stop being scared by the minority of Muslims and stop being scared of Muslims taking over the UK, as believe me, coming from a Muslim, it will never happen !

Gangs fight because they want to fight. Alcohol has nothing to do with it. Therefore, alcohol doesn't cause violence, violent people do.

Every non-Muslim country (and even in some) they use alcohol as a relaxant. Right now in the world today, nearly every Muslim country is wound up, wired, about to blow. The rest of us are chilled, having fun. Humans have always used drugs and our favorite is alcohol.

Cheers.

But yet the likes of you, just because a small minority of so called "muslims" are acting like idiots (just like the idiots within the edl) you want to tarnish the whole muslim community as being the same.

I beleive alcohol should be banned and they are much argument for it and much argument against it.

and if by accusing you of being brain washed is getting personal, then dont think your comments you made against me accusing me of attending madrassa's and being brain washed by islam wasn't personal, but yet this you jump onto it as soon as I accused you of being brainwashed, you too sensitive to discuss with, so I wont bother anymore....

err... alcohol is taxed to the hilt. Jesus - you really are scraping the barrel with this argument.

You are blinkered in that you don't realise that you yourself are tarnishing a whole community, no... the whole of western civilisation with your opinion.

The fact you can't understand that simple concept shows how little idea you have of the culture around you. You live in your little ghetto in Blackburn or Burnley or Bradford; listening to the same old stories about how good you muslims think you are, without seeing what how us 'other half' live. How many people had a drink last night and DIDN'T end up in A+E. Must be millions. How many didn't end up in A=E in Europe, the America's, Australia, South Africa, Russia - the list goes on and on.

You really have no idea about the place and the people where you live. You are ignorant of the people and the culture of this country.

Not everybody wants to live like you do -

if you can call a life under an oppressive religion a life.....

At the end of the day, alcohol does play a major part in many incidents regardless of whether or not you have a violent underlying trait in your personality.

People get drunk for a whole host of reasons...& sometimes end up doing all sorts of unbelievable things that the next day...they're horrified/mortified by. Alcohol does affect your thinking, no doubt about it.

Lots of people know their limit but in this country, we do seem to have a problem with alcohol. Cut benefits & make the scoats get jobs instead of overpaying them so they can indulge in vast quantaties of alcohol & basically continue being a burden to society.
