DRAMA Paramedics attend to Jean Gribble
AN elderly woman who was left critically injured after a horror road accident in Nelson has been named.
Jean Gribble, 74, of Crawford Street, Nelson, was making her way across Leeds Road when she was hit by a green Honda Civic.
She had been walking along Beech Street and was making her way to a bus stop just seconds before the crash at around noon on Wednesday.
Witness Cath Jackson, who runs a cafe on the corner of Beech Street and Leeds Road, said: “I was sat down having my dinner with a friend with the cafe door open when we heard screeching brakes.
“I saw the car hit her, she landed back on the car and then on the floor.”
Cath, who has run the cafe for 12 years, praised the emergency services for their quick response.
She said: “I phoned for the ambulance and it wasn't long before the paramedics arrived. The police and ambulances were here within minutes. They were so brilliant and calmed the crowd down. They did a good job. I hope I don't have to witness anything like that again.”
Jean Gribble was yesterday in a serious but stable condition in Royal Preston Hospital after she was airlifted from the scene.
Police said it was thought her injuries were not life threatening.
- A 19-year-old man from Nelson who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving has been released on police bail until November 14. Two passengers were questioned but not arrested, police said.
