Development cash to help revamp Hyndburn streets

DEVELOPMENT cash could be used to revamp unadopted streets.

Hyndburn Council is considering a scheme which would see funding from housing developers used to repair and maintain unadopted roads and back streets.

The council’s planning service said it would investigate the possibility of entering into Section 106 Agreements with housing developers to ensure developments provide cash to fund repairs of nearby streets.

Planning officers say that in cases where the proposed access would result in an increase in the number of vehicles driving on a stretch of unadopted road, then it may be justifiable to ask for the developer to pay.

The council are expected to complete a review of what a developer should or should not pay for.
