UPDATED: Woman in critical condition after collision in Nelson town centre

A woman is seriously ill in hospital after being knocked down by a car in Nelson today.

The incident happened at around noon in Leeds Road, close to the junction with Beech Street, when the elderly woman was hit by a Honda Civic.

The woman was air lifted to the Royal Preston Hospital and is in a critical condition.

The road remains closed to allow accident investigators to carry out an examination of the scene.

Sergeant Finn Quainton from the Road Policing Unit said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed the collision to come forward and contact us.

“The family of the lady involved are being informed and specially trained family liaison officers will be supporting and working with them.”
