East Lancashire dancers put their bare necessities on the line
10:00pm Wednesday 5th September 2012 in News
COWBOY BOOTS, stetsons and tassled waistcoats were left strewn across the floor when a group of female line dancers bared almost all for a charity calendar.
Elizabeth Davies, an instructor known throughout East Lancashire as Dynamite Dot, organised the fundraising stunt for East Lancashire Hospice.
Dot gathered 11volunteers from her weekly group at the Poplar Club, Wellington Street, Accrington, which she has run for 18 years.
The 60-year-old, who lives in Darwen, has also overseen line dancing groups in Burnley, Briefield, Barnoldswick, Nelson and Colne College and Blackburn.
She wanted to do a special event for the hospice to pay tribute to what she describes as 'an incredible group of women'.
The calendar was shot by group member and photographer Janine Butterworth.
Dot said: “Everyone one of us is full of admiration for the work of the hospice.
“We’ve grown older as a group and I will be retiring soon, so I wanted something to mark that.
“The shoot itself was full of laughter, slapstick and poignancy as several of the girls have had personal experiences with loved ones being in the hospice.”
The women featured are between the ages of 38 and 72.
Jennifer Quinn, fundraiser at the hospice, said: “We are really grateful to Dot and the rest of the ladies. We know the ladies had great fun doing it.”
The calendar costs £5 plus £1.10 postage and packaging.
It is available from the Poplar club on Tuesday evenings or Wednesday afternoons, from Dot on 01254 707345 or elizabethdavies91@yahoo.com
