Burnley MP ready to talk with education secretary
11:38am Wednesday 5th September 2012 in News
MP Gordon Birtwistle has called for an urgent meeting with the Education Secretary amid claims of a lack of primary school places in Burnley.
The Burnley MP is set to hold talks with Michael Gove after a number of children were left in limbo over school places for the autumn term.
Mr Birtwistle, who has received a number of complaints, said “I have previously written to the Department for Education about this matter but was dissatisfied by their response.
“Many parents are very concerned that it is almost the start of the new academic year, yet they have been unable to find a school for their child.
“The early years in education are so important and finding the right primary school is priority for most parents.
“I have seen a large number of families who have been denied a place for their child in their top three choice of schools, leaving them either completely without a school place or with an offer for a school miles away from their home. “
