Burnley pensioner arrested after cannabis find

A man aged 73 has been arrested in Burnley after police raided a suspected £12,000 cannabis farm close to a drugs rehab centre.

Police swooped on a property in Westgate at around 6.30pm following a tip-off from a member of the public.

Investigating officers also alerted energy company United Utilities amid concerns that the electricity supply may have been tampered with.

A Lancashire Police spokesman confirmed that the plants, around 30 in total, were discovered in upstairs rooms at the three-storey property.

He said a 73-year-old Burnley man had been arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis and had been bailed by police until October 29.

What? He's made it to 73 and he's not dead, he's not psychotic, he's not an axe murderer?

But he smokes cannabis.

I'm confused.

A 73 year old in control of a cannabis farm. Really! A farm? 30 plants does not equal a farm.

Criminal drug gangs grow hundreds of plants in empty houses and warehouses.

This old man was probably either growing it to use as medicine for ailments he possibly has, or maybe to sub his rotten state pension.

I very much doubt he was known as the Scareface of Burnley!

What a complete waste of time and resources that could easily be directed elsewhere, like bring actual criminals to justice, if only our ridiculous laws were changed to actually protect the people instead of always trying to prosecute them!

Meanwhile, somewhere in darkest Kent a company called GW Pharmaceuticals are growing thousands of high potency cannabis plants (20 tons a year) with total impunity. They grow cannabis in the biggest cannabis garden/farm/factory in the UK, extract all its components and sell them as a tincture to the NHS at huge profit and the government deems their product safe and effective (Google Sativex or Nabiximols). At the same time the government insists that cannabis is dangerous. So according to them cannabis in its natural state is dangerous but cannabis in a bottle is safe, GW Pharma can safely grow their cannabis in their £million, state of the art greenhouses with generous tax breaks but we risk incarceration for growing just one plant for its safe and effective qualities. Do some research people - you are being lied to.”
