Call for diversion to reduce Darwen tailbacks

TRAFFIC between Bolton and Blackburn should be diverted off the A666 through Darwen centre to cut post-flooding tailbacks, it has been claimed.

Sudell ward councillor Paul Browne suggested the move to highways chiefs at Blackburn with Darwen’s full council forum.

Tory opposition leader Mike Lee questioned the wisdom of diverting potential shoppers in Darwen by directing them away from the town centre.

Regeneration chief, Dave Harling, said everything possible was being done to get the traffic flowing.

Don't know about anybout else but the diversions are working for me. It was only a nightmare when both roads were closed. If emergency repairs need doing then they have to be done. Yet again Cllr Browne spouting garbage "i'm all for Darwen" then comes out with tripe

Make the main road and goosehouse lane a one way ring road till the repairs are done.

For anyone needing to travel from Bolton to Blackburn, or vice versa, it's not much further, and wouldn't take that much more time, to use the Belmont Road, to M65, Jn 3.

Why can't we comment on the horse abuser story? I know the women are ugly in Blackburn but this is the second such incident this month. Well I suppose you don't have to take a horse to the pictures.

Why is the state of the traffic through Darwen never shown in the Live Travel on the Telegraph website? Surely it's of more significance than "Barbara Castle way: Busy but moving", which is almost always there. The traffic's built up over 200 yards on our road, just waiting to join the main road, but no mention.

Not the only one to wonder about that point! What happened to free speech!

Wait until Darwen Vale reopens then we will know what traffic chaos is!

There is nothing wrong with the traffic lights at the moment! Five mins most times. I would say the spotters are far to far away but system is working fine.

I agree completely. The most time its taken me to get from the motorway to the traffic lights since the main road roadworks started is 13 minutes. Its not a massive holdup

Before the M65 was built, it was stated that the intersection to Darwen would be a major problem with traffic flow as it merges onto the A666 at Earcroft, especially through traffic going to Bolton. This was ignored.
An alternative plan was suggested, by constructing another intersection for Bolton traffic, taking a route along the roman road area from the Daisyfield Industrial Unit, up through the back of Darwen, past Sett End towards Bolton.
This was ignored because of funding.
Then some bright spark from the council, decided to alter the traffic system through the centre of Darwen and divert it past the Leisure Centre then up Bolton road at the Circus, to eleviate the high pollution at Darwen Town centre...what a farce that was.
I dont see any new reports being conducted of the traffic pollution, not just at the town centre, but all along the A666 from Earcroft to Bolton road area of Darwen, because everyone would be shocked at the results.
