Burnley residents urged to set up Neighbourhood Watch schemes

BURNLEY residents are being encouraged to help set up their own neighbourhood watch schemes.

PCSO Dave Johnson, who has helped set up schemes with local volunteers, said: “Neighbourhood watch schemes are a vital tool to help the police and communities to reduce crime.

“We have many schemes operating across the borough and I appeal to anyone who wishes to join to contact their local policing team.

“Schemes are not solely about reducing crime. They are also about fostering and growing, communities who care about where they live and take action to improve the neighbourhood.”

Anybody interested in setting up a neighbourhood watch should contact police on 0845 1 25 35 45.

Neighbourhood Watch is a great thing for crime prevention.
Many is the time that we would come rolling through the village, drunk as Lords, singing Rugby songs, when Mrs Mawson used to stick her head out of the bedroom window, tell us to shut up and go home quietly or she would have us arrested. We used to call her the neighbourhood watch because she used to tell us the time as well!

I do this anyway, I'm always checking bins for the correct waste and tax discs in the area. I like to inform on at least one person a week. Its a figure I set myself. If you haven't got targets to aim for how can you measure your performance. To date I'm up on the same quarter last year.
Its just basics really. I'm really pleased that I'm ahead of target. :0)
