Firefighters free horse from fence in Briercliffe

A HORSE had to be rescued when it got its hoof stuck in a metal fence in Briercliffe.

Firefighters were called to help the distressed chestnut mare at around 11am on Saturday after she got her back left leg trapped in one of the bottom bars of a fence at Hollin Grove Farm.

Nelson crew manager Tom Ashworth said: “The owners of the horse had tried to free her, but the leg was not moving, so we used our spreaders to move the bars.

“Gently, the foot came out and the horse put its weight in it straight away, which was a good sign.”
