Darwen firm gets permanent base at last

A FAMILY firm is celebrating the decision by Blackburn with Darwen councillors to give the green light to move into its first permanent home in its 38 years.
Astley Bank Engineering Ltd now hopes to be in existing industrial premises at Unit 12 Ellesmere Road, Darwen, by October.
Since setting up in the town in 1974, the company has rented three factories.
This week, members of the borough council’s planning and highways committee approved the engineers’ application to take over the new factory which is slightly larger than the premises in Watery Lane.
The company’s new base also has better access to the motorway network to deliver products to the main customer in Wigan.
