Man arrested on suspicion of Haslingden sexual assault

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after a 43-year-old woman was attacked in Haslingden in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers were today questioning the 24-year-old man after arresting him at an address in Accrington.

The incident took place between 12.30am and 1am as the woman was walking along Manchester Road after a night out.

Police said the victim saw a man saw acting suspiciously and as she turned into a back street near to Bank Mill Street and Hope Street she was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted.

The culprit then fled back in the direction of Manchester Road.

Officers are still appealing for any witnesses to the alleged assault.

Detective Inspector Marie Haworth from Burnley CID said: “I would reassure people that incidents of this nature are rare and we have a team of detectives investigating.”
