Colne drunken man exposed himself in police van

A COLNE man who exposed himself in the back of a police van and performed an obscene act in front of a female constable has been ordered to attend an alcohol treatment course.

Drunken William Alderson also made obscene threats towards PC Heidi Andrews her during a rant after his arrest, Burnley magistrates heard. But Alderson claimed his trousers had come down as he was trying to salvage some tobacco he had hidden inside them, the court was told.

His solicitor, David Leach, said his client was adamant that he was only looking to offend watching police officers and had not obtained any sexual gratification from the episode. Alderson, of Allendale Street, who admitted indecent exposure, using threatening behaviour and resisting a police officer, was given a nine-month supervision order, with a six-month alcohol treatment order.

He was also fined £35 with £55 costs and a £15 victim surcharge after magistrates told him the nature of the threats he made to the officer had been ‘an aggravating factor’.

Prosecutor Alex Mann said the incident began at around 3.30am on July 25 when police were investigating reports that a fire alarm had been activated in Burnley town centre.
