Just a month left to help meet Hyndburn's recycling targets

RESIDENTS have one month to help Hyndburn Council meet recycling targets under the Cash Back challenge scheme.

Hyndburn Council pledged earlier this year to refund council tax to a handful of lucky winners, if recycling rates increased 2 per cent between April and September.

When winners are chosen next month, the challenge will begin for a nother six month period with more winners chosen next March. Councillor Munsif Dad, Cabinet Member for Recycling said: “We still need to do more to reach our target of 40 per cent. This is not only for the sake of the environment and future generations, but to save money and keep council tax bills down, as sending waste to landfill is an expensive business – over £85 per tonne.”

“Residents who take up the challenge and recycle more will have the chance to win cash back equivalent to the Hyndburn element of their council tax.

After launching our new and improved recycling service in June there are now even more items that residents can recycle. As well as the usual plastic bottles, paper, textiles, cardboard and glass jars residents can now recycle things such as plastic yoghurt pots and meat trays, margarine tubs and even household batteries.”
