Burnley thief had hired car

A CROOK who sold a car worth just £200 to a scrap yard had been hiring it for £100 a week for some time, a court heard.

Burnley magistrates were told how the owners of the Ford Mondeo found out it had been stolen when they saw it being advertised for sale for £800 and went and got it back.

Edward Collins, 39, who was responsible, had also helped himself to tools worth £95 from Wilkinsons in Nelson.

Collins, who has now committed 220 offences and was in breach of a conditional discharge, admitted two counts of theft and one of failing to surrender. Collins, of Edith Street, Nelson, must pay £200 compensation to the salvage yard and £85 costs.
