Burnley alcoholic abused passers-by

A 45-YEAR-OLD Burnley alcoholic discharged himself from hospital because he needed a drink.

Blackburn magistrates heard that hours later Paul John Manley was arrested in the town centre after shoppers reported him dropping his trousers and shouting abuse at passers by.

Manley, of Slaidburn Drive, Burnley, was convicted of being drunk and disorderly. He was fined £55 with £115 costs. Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Manley had a half empty bottle of port and was having trouble standing.

Keith Rennison, defending, said Manley was well known in Burnley.

“He is entirely alcohol dependant and can’t simply abstain because if he does he suffers seizures and fits,” said Mr Rennison.
