Burnley pensioner cleared of 7 rape charges

A PENSIONER has been cleared of a string of alleged child sex attacks after a week-long trial at Burnley Crown Court.

Stuart Wilson, now 65, who used to run his own bakery business, had faced seven allegations of rape and six of indecent assault, said to date back about 40 years. He was found not guilty yesterday of 12 of the 13 allegations by the jury.

The jury did not reach a verdict on one of the indecent assault counts and it was listed for mention on August 13.

Mr Wilson, of Cotton Street, Burnley, who denied all the allegations against him, has no criminal convictions.

The defendant, who has also lived in Nelson and Crawshawbooth, claimed the alleged victims were financially motivated.
